SPECIAL CLASSES/WORKSHOPS

BODY JAM

students entering 5th - 8th grades                                                                                 $70 per student for 8 sessions

This rhythm-based experience will integrate movement, story-telling and body drumming into rhythm games, music performances and improvisations. Emphasis will be placed on the students' growth as performers and creative thinkers. The life skills of maintaining a positive attitude, respecting others and cooperation also will be emphasized.

GROOVE FACTOR

students entering 9th grade to college seniors                                                                 $80 per student for 8 sessions

The Groove Factor will focus on rhythmic experimentation. In the tradition of Stomp and Blue Man Group, students will use body rhythms, drums, trash cans and anything else that can keep the groove alive. Students will learn rhythms, drumming techniques and traditions from West Africa, Cuba and Haiti. This group is perfect for dancers, drummers, actors, jazz band students, guitar players and anyone else who wants to have fun experimenting with rhythm in its many forms.

BODY JAM and GROOVE FACTOR are taught by Dr. David Knowlton. "Dr. Dave" is a scholar, author, educator and musician.
