BODY JAM students
entering 5th - 8th grades
$70 per student for 8 sessions This rhythm-based experience will integrate movement, story-telling
and body drumming into rhythm games, music performances and improvisations. Emphasis will be placed on the students' growth
as performers and creative thinkers. The life skills of maintaining a positive attitude, respecting others and cooperation
also will be emphasized.
GROOVE FACTOR students entering 9th grade to college seniors
$80 per student for 8 sessions The Groove Factor will focus on rhythmic experimentation. In the tradition of Stomp and Blue Man Group,
students will use body rhythms, drums, trash cans and anything else that can keep the groove alive. Students will learn rhythms,
drumming techniques and traditions from West Africa, Cuba and Haiti. This group is perfect for dancers, drummers, actors,
jazz band students, guitar players and anyone else who wants to have fun experimenting with rhythm in its many forms.
BODY JAM and GROOVE FACTOR
are taught by Dr. David Knowlton. "Dr. Dave" is a scholar, author, educator and musician.
Over the last 20 years, he has toured nationally, teaching middle school, high school and college students about drumming,
rhythm, movement and performance. For the past 5 years, Dr. Dave has been, actively, studying the music and cultures of West
Africa, Cuba and South America. He brings a high-energy approach to teaching in studio settings, and he is guaranteed to offer
students an enduring musical experience!.
